Arcturis developed a vision for the future of Cape Girardeau, MO through the use of physical and socio-economic analysis and public participation workshops. Cape Girardeau has a lack of infrastructure connectivity, which affects development of market areas that are crucial to the economic stability of the City. Through the development of future land use and infrastructure plans, Arcturis was able to demonstrate that connecting infrastructure could develop a framework for controlled growth. Arcturis also proposed various districts such as a riverfront district, various corridor districts and community development districts. Analysis revealed that Cape Girardeau was growing in northern and western areas which put pressure on the public works department to provide basic utilities. New commercial areas around interchanges made it necessary to stabilize the downtown core and revitalize the southern portion of the City. The plan received an Honorable Mention award for Outstanding Plan at the Missouri Planning Awards.
