490 Kingshighway

490 Kingshighway is an adaptive reuse project located in the Holy Corners Historic District of Central West End in St. Louis. The District, which is known for its beautiful historic architecture, is an important part of the area’s cultural heritage; thus it was important that the new design preserve the character of the original building while adding much-needed residential space. Originally an early 20th-century auto dealership, the project has been transformed into a stunning residential complex. The edifice is a five-story structure of wood frame construction, built above the existing historic building. Careful consideration was given to the needs of modern living while creating the building’s design, resulting in a combination of old and new elements that both complements the surrounding buildings and enhances the overall aesthetic of the neighborhood.

One of the unique features of the project is its high walkability score. The building is located in a very walkable area with excellent access to public transportation, restaurants, and shopping, making it an ideal location for residents who prefer to leave their cars at home and explore the neighborhood on foot. The project is an excellent example of how historic buildings can be repurposed and transformed into vibrant new spaces that meet the needs of modern residents.
