Arcturis partnered with a botanical research client to design an engaging outdoor visitor garden aimed at enhancing tourism through a unique, nature-based experience. Conceived as an all-inclusive destination, the garden blends learning, play, and environmental discovery to attract a wide range of visitors—from families and school groups to eco-tourists and garden enthusiasts. The design invites exploration and creativity using natural materials such as tree limbs, boulders, and native grasses, reinforcing the site's mission to connect people with nature in meaningful ways.
Taking full advantage of the existing topography, the site preserves and showcases the area’s diverse landscape. A central feature, inspired by a Texas creek, integrates boulders and driftwood timbers to create opportunities for climbing, balancing, and building. Additionally, a working farm exhibit introduces visitors to agricultural life through interpretive signage and hands-on learning stations. These elements provide both recreational and educational value, positioning the garden as a vibrant, family-friendly destination that stands out within the regional tourism landscape.
By focusing on sensory activation, inclusive design, and immersive programming, the visitor garden supports the broader goal of increasing tourism and visibility for the botanical institution. The result is a dynamic outdoor space that encourages longer stays, repeat visits, and a deeper appreciation for native ecology—all while contributing to the local economy and cultural identity.
