manchester streetscape - Kirkwood, missouri

Located along Manchester Road, the streetscape project within the city limits of Kirkwood aims to transform a critical transportation corridor into a more welcoming, attractive, and pedestrian-friendly environment. This portion of the roadway serves as both a primary commuter route and a vital connector through the city, making it an essential focus for improvements that balance functionality with community identity.

The project includes a comprehensive redesign of pedestrian infrastructure to enhance safety and accessibility. Upgrades feature widened sidewalks, improved crosswalks, pedestrian-scale lighting, and ADA-compliant ramps to ensure safe and comfortable travel for all users. Landscape enhancements, including plantings, and decorative paving, contribute to a more inviting streetscape while providing natural buffering from traffic. These elements work together to calm vehicular speeds and create a more livable, walkable environment for residents and visitors alike.

To reinforce the city’s identity and create a sense of arrival, the project incorporates gateway monument markers at both ends of the corridor within Kirkwood’s boundaries. These markers are designed to reflect the character and values of the community, serving as visual landmarks that welcome travelers and signify the transition into the city. Together, the aesthetic improvements, pedestrian-focused upgrades, and gateway features establish a cohesive and functional corridor that enhances both daily experience and long-term civic pride.
