A sustainable design project, the MSD Project Clear Site Design project addresses water quality, stormwater retention, and neighborhood open space issues. MSD contracted Arcturis to develop the final site designs for six different sites in the City of St. Louis. Incorporating stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), the site utilized design layouts and grading of retention basins to slow the runoff and allow for percolation back into the soils. Other sustainable design elements such as permeable pavement materials and native riparian plantings were also employed. Located in neighborhoods lacking open space and landscape, the designs added beauty as well as interpretive educational opportunities at each site. Arcturis produced the concept designs, final documents, cost estimates, and construction administration.
