How did you decide to get into the lighting aspect of design?
In Studio I my first project was to design and build a light fixture. That sparked an interest but I did not understand lighting was something that could be focused on until I started working. One of my first projects was a large renovation at a convention center that dealt with ceilings and lighting. That project helped show me the importance well designed lighting has on a space and that lighting was something that could be focused on. I have always had support from Arcturis in pursuing lighting and also from the local lighting community.
What are your favorite design styles?
I am very inspired and impressed by artists who use light, but I am most inspired by seeing how light is used in the natural world and the impact natural light has on an environment. My phone has tons of sunset/sunrise photos along with a variety of other scenarios showing how daylight or moonlight interacts with all sorts of objects.
If you weren’t doing what you’re doing, what field do you think you’d be in?
I always thought it would be fun to be a helicopter pilot with a 9-5 M-F schedule.
What is the coolest place you’ve ever been?
Tokyo, Japan – I did not want to come home
Thank you for this quick conversation, Brian, and thank you for all you do to help make Arcturis successful!
