As part of the STLCC Transformed initiative, the Emerging Technology Center at STLCC Meramec is poised to strengthen the College’s leadership in workforce development within the science and technology sectors. This new 80,000-square-foot facility will introduce forward-thinking academic programs focused on emerging and sustainable sciences, engineering, and the expansion of plant science and horticulture. The building will also serve as the new home for the campus library and is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, reflecting the College’s commitment to sustainability.
The Center is designed to inspire—with flexible, technology-rich learning environments that support evolving pedagogies and energize both new and existing public spaces on campus. Transparency, connectivity, and inclusivity are central themes, creating a welcoming atmosphere that fosters collaboration and community.
Architecturally, the building showcases a bold design language, featuring solid, floating volumes set above a transparent base. This visual contrast celebrates both traditional materials and the activation of public spaces. A central courtyard between two campus structures extends the learning experience outdoors, offering a variety of environments for both academic and social engagement.
A collaborative, integrated approach shaped the project from design through construction, guided by five core principles:
Flexibility to adapt to evolving educational needs
Wellbeing through natural light, active design, and spaces that support mental and physical health
Community by fostering connection, accessibility, and belonging
Equity by creating inclusive environments for all users
Sustainability through environmentally conscious design and material choices
“The Arcturis team gets so much information from all the various voices with so many different perspectives. They have the ability to decipher what parts and pieces to pull out that will be effective.”
“They are open and they understand. This whole design process has really helped the college.”
