washu east end transformation

As part of Washington University’s East End Transformation of the Danforth Campus, the university reinforced its mission and values through the addition of three academic buildings, an expansion of the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, a new underground parking facility, and the creation of Ann and Andrew Tisch Park. Among these enhancements, two new multi-use buildings—the Craig and Nancy Schnuck Pavilion and the Gary M. Sumers Welcome Center—serve as key anchors to the reimagined campus experience.

Arcturis played a central role in the design of both the Welcome Center and Schnuck Pavilion. The Welcome Center houses Undergraduate Admissions and Student Financial Services, creating a vibrant first impression for prospective students and families. The Schnuck Pavilion supports the Environmental Studies Program, the Office of Sustainability, and campus dining, while also offering amenities for bicycle and pedestrian commuters including lockers, showers, and secure bike parking. Its café and expansive outdoor terraces offer seating for up to 300, enhancing campus life and connectivity.

Working in close collaboration with the architectural team, Arcturis led interior furniture selection from concept through construction, ensuring alignment with project vision and university values. Our scope included furniture and equipment design for public gathering and presentation spaces, administrative offices, dining areas, and exterior site furnishings. All product solutions were carefully vetted to meet rigorous sustainability standards, contribute to LEED certification goals, and comply with the Healthy Hospitals Initiative—minimizing exposure to harmful materials and promoting healthier learning environments.
