Tyson Memorial Grove honors the profound generosity of those who have contributed to the Washington University School of Medicine’s Body Donor Program. Situated on a peaceful acre adjacent to the Tyson Research Center in Eureka, Missouri, the space offers a quiet sanctuary for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude. At its heart, three steel-faced Sierra White Granite tablets are set within a radial concrete plaza, serving as enduring tributes to the individuals who have given so selflessly in support of medical education and research.
A gracefully curving, board-formed concrete wall frames the memorial and complements the natural contours of the hillside, creating a subtle yet powerful sense of enclosure. The surrounding landscape was carefully preserved, with special attention given to protecting native hardwood trees to ensure ecological resilience and maintain seasonal beauty. The design emphasizes harmony between built elements and nature, reinforcing the memorial’s contemplative atmosphere.
Guided by a minimalist design philosophy, Arcturis integrated understated pathway signage and discreet graphic elements that welcome visitors without distraction. The result is a thoughtfully crafted space that reflects the dignity of its purpose while highlighting the expertise of Arcturis’s landscape architecture and design team in creating meaningful, lasting environments.
